Understanding the Relationship Between ARS and SAS

ARS and SAS are interrelated products that work together to perform various administrative tasks. The Authentication Services ARS Integration Pack is designed to facilitate optimal integration between the two.

Minimum System Requirements

Not meeting the minimum system requirements can lead to installation failures and compatibility issues. Here are the minimum supported versions for each product:

• ARS Integration Pack (IP) 2.5.0.568
  • Safeguard Authentication Services (SAS) 4.1 or later
  • Authentication Services Control Center (must be installed)
  • Active Roles 6.9 or later
• ARS Integration Pack (IP) 2.7
  • Safeguard Authentication Services (SAS) 4.2.5 or later
  • Safeguard Authentication Services Control Center (must be installed)
  • Active Roles 7.1 or later

Important Note:

The minimum requirements listed above only apply to installation and do not guarantee ongoing support. It is always recommended to run the latest supported version of each product. For more information on product lifecycles, please refer to the following tables:

Upgrade Order

To ensure a smooth upgrade process and avoid compatibility issues, follow these steps in the specified order:

1. Remove the old version of SAS from the server running ARS.
2. Upgrade ARS to the desired version.
3. Install the newer version of SAS for Windows (Control Center):
   1. If you are upgrading from SAS version 4.x to 5.x or later, you will need a new license. Refer to this article for details: Steps Required to Upgrade from SAS 4.x to 5.x - New License Required
   2. To ensure uninterrupted communication between Linux/Unix devices and Active Directory (AD) during the upgrade:
      1. Install SAS for Windows (Control Center) with 5.x or later version, For more information Refer to the Installation Guide
         1. Installation Files are available in the Download Portal
      2.  Install both the 4.x and 5.x licenses to allow devices running 4.x to continue communicating while they are updated.
      3. The recommended upgrade path is to upgrade the Windows-side tools first, allowing you to maintain both a v4 and v5 license in the Control Center. You can then proceed with upgrading your client-side systems at your convenience.
      4. Be aware that any issues encountered on devices running unsupported versions of SAS will likely require upgrading the device itself as the first troubleshooting step.
   3. Install the latest version of the Authentication Services Active Roles Integration Pack.
