Defender Desktop login has a tool named GetTokens.exe which can be used to force the offline token store to update its cached tokens while connected to the domain network.

Running the tool manually creates a scheduled task which gets executed to update the offline cached tokens, however, it was noticed that the task does execute and is logged as "task completed successfully" but the cached tokens do not get updated.
The GetTokens.exe scheduled task should also run every 30 minutes to allow the cache to be updated after logging on to the corporate VPN.
Issue is fixed in Defender version 5.9.6.
