Cause
Windows Authenticator+ is not yet supported by Defender -
Resolution
WORKAROUND:
Remove the dashes (-) between the sections of the activation key before applying:
E.g.
From:
ceo3ar-cvvfeq-njzjt6-42ucei-v67jqb-ibwnnr-r4vdqa-duwziw-6o5a
To:
ceo3arcvvfeqnjzjt642uceiv67jqbibwnnrr4vdqaduwziw6o5a
STATUS:
Enhancement request 502187 has been submitted to Development for consideration in a future release of Defender. -

Additional Information
Google Authenticator already strips out the dashes, however other 3rd party applications may not.
