Is it possible to use the same activation code to activate a Defender Soft Token on multiple devices? If so, is there any way to prevent this?
It is possible to use the same activation code to activate a soft token on multiple devices. For example, you could program an iToken, then take the activation code and activate it on more than one iPhone.
While this is technically possible, it is not feasible for long term use. The tokens will conflict with each other and both tokens will become out of sync. If you would like a user to have a token on multiple devices, it is recommended that you program a separate token for each device.
Currently, there is no way to prevent an activation code from being activated on more than one device. The tokens use a mathematical algorithm to generate the response code and do not communicate directly with the DSS. The best way to prevent an activation code from being re-used is to set the expiration time of the activation code. While going through the token programming wizard:
- Check the box next to "Enable time limited token activation"
- Enter the desired number of days for which you would like the token to be valid.
