How to optimize settings for the Management Console for Unix (MCU)

The settings for the MCU are contained in the following file

C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\Management Console for Unix\jvmargs.cfg

The following are suggested specifications and may depend on the reporting demands.

• Set the initial or start memory size using the “-Xms” variable and the maximum memory size using the “-Xmx” variable.

For example:

-Xms512m
-Xmx512m
where "512m" specifies 512MB of memory or "1g" specifies 1GB of memory.

Note: 1024MB is the default memory requirement.

• For each 1,000 application database records (hosts, uses, groups, group memberships), increase the JVM memory by 20MB to support 1 to 3 simultaneous web browser connections.
• For each 1,000 records, increase the memory by 30MB to support 3 to 5 simultaneous web browser connections.
• If more than two or three reports are created simultaneously, increase the memory specification.
• Do not allocate more memory than is available or the console will fail to load.
  
  
  

NOTE: There is a current limitation between 1200m, and 1500m as the maximum size for the -Xmx value due to restrictions with the 32 bit JVM.
Increasing the value above this will result in Management Console for Unix not starting.

Status:   
An enhancement request has been submitted to Development for consideration in a future release.
This will remove the limitation by using a 64 bit version.
