Configuring the Active Roles Administration Service fails with ‘The target principal name is incorrect’. -
Description
When you use Windows authentication to connect a SQL Server instance on the 'Configuration Database Connection' page, you receive the following error message: The target principal name is incorrect. Cannot generate SSPI context.

Cause
This error message is caused by a Kerberos configuration issue with Microsoft Windows Authentication. -
Résolution
Workaround 1:
Use ‘SQL Server Authentication’ instead of 'Windows Authentication' when configuring Active Roles to connect to the Configuration Database.
Workaround 2:
Reach out to Microsoft concerning the inability to connect to the Windows SQL Server.
