Microsoft released the Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE) in July 2025 and announced the end of support (EOL) for Exchange Server 2019 in October 2025. This raised questions for Identity Manager customers about compatibility and future support for Exchange SE.
Currently, Identity Manager’s Exchange 2019 connector can be used to manage Exchange SE environments. Customers upgrading from Exchange 2019 to Exchange SE will continue to see their environment displayed as Exchange 2019 within Identity Manager tools, but functionality remains intact.
Future Microsoft roadmap changes may affect connector compatibility, specifically around the deprecation of Remote PowerShell (RPS) and the introduction of a new RESTful Admin API.
Microsoft announced Exchange SE with a shortened transition period and EOL of Exchange Server 2019 (October 2025).
Exchange SE RTM (initial release) is largely equivalent to Exchange 2019 CU15, so existing tools and connectors continue to function.
However, Microsoft’s roadmap introduces:
Deprecation notice for Remote PowerShell (no firm removal date yet).
New RESTful Admin API (first introduced with Exchange SE CU1).
These upcoming changes mean that the existing Exchange 2019 connector will eventually need to be replaced with a new connector based on the RESTful Admin API.
