How to test hotfix DLL files that are provided by Support.
Are there steps that can be used to test a hotfix before deploying in production?
Ensure a backup copy of the DLL to be replaced exists so that it can be reinstalled if any testing isn't successful.
Any provided DLL files should be uploaded the into the Identity Manager (1IM) database with the Software Loader (C:\Program Files\One Identity\One Identity Manager\SoftwareLoader.exe).
If automatic updates have been configured, this DLL should be distributed after some time. For more information on Implementing the automatic software update, please refer to the Installation Guide.
In order to expedite things, it is possible to distribute the DLL manually as well, in all relevant directories (wherever a DLL with the same name is located). This is a required step if automatic updates are not enabled.
In order to test the hotfix DLL first, make a backup of the current DLL in use and omit the step above with the Software Loader. Keep in mind that the new DLL which is copied into any application directory may be overwritten with the old DLL by automatic updates, thus hampering testing.
After successful testing, the new DLL should be uploaded to the database, irrespective of the automatic updates being configured or not. This is because, if automatic updates is enabled in the future, any new DLL files applied using the manual method above will be overwritten with the original DLL file (from the database), thus re-introducing any issues that were resolved.
