How does Syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) license hosts? -

How Syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) applies licenses:
When a source sends logs to a Syslog-ng Store Box, a single license is used and is based on the ${HOSTNAME} of the sender which is called the Log Source Host or LSH.
That license is used until the Syslog-ng service is restarted.
Starting with Version 6.0.1 and 6.4.0, our Long Term Support and Feature Release branches respectively, the license count is reset to zero daily at midnight.
Additionally, a single source can use multiple licenses if the hostname of that source changes.
Example:
If a source uses their IP Address as their hostname, and they are using a VPN, the IP Address can change thus causing the hostname to change which means multiple licenses would be used on a single host.That being said, a license is only consumed if the host is sending logs after the last clearing of the license.
If the host has sent logs previously and those are contained in the logstore, however, that host has not sent logs since the last clearing of the license, the single license used by that host will no longer be used until the host begins to send logs once more.
NOTE - One Identity does offer licenses with an unlimited host count for those concerned about the number of licenses being used.Types of Syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) licenses:
Perpetual License:The licensee can download and use the latest Long Term Supported (LTS) Release of the product, and any subsequent Feature Release that is based on the Long Term Supported Release that was valid when the license was purchased. To access the next Long Term Supported (LTS) Release, a valid support package must be obtained when the next Long Term Supported (LTS) Release is published.
Subscription-based licenseFor virtual appliances, a subscription-based license can be purchased that is valid for a fixed period of twelve (12) or thirty-six (36) months. The subscription-based license automatically includes product support and access to the latest software versions.
