Is Authentication Services supported on Windows 2012 server, Windows 2012 server R2, and Windows Server 2016?
Yes, Authentication Services client supports connecting to Windows Server 2012/2012R2/2016 domain controllers. The admin tools are supported on 2012/2012R2/2016, and on Windows 2012 servers.
We recommend QAS clients be on the latest maintenance version of the product. For a list of issues fixed please see the changelog.txt file that comes with the product.
Here are some fixed defects that concern QAS clients connecting to Windows 2012 domain controllers:
* vgp: On apply, if vgptool gets NT_STATUS_DUPLICATE_NAME, try again using netbios name instead of fqdn of domain.
For example, if the netbios name is CPR1, and the domain is cpr1.vas, its fine. But if its CPR, to cpr1.vas, it could see this issue.
* vasd: Support for Windows 2012 SID compression. Without this fix, user's groups might be missing on password login. However it is possible to disable it on the DCs. Either for the DC, or for specific objects.
Group policy will not apply due to SMB1 being disabled. On Windows server 2012, SMB1 is disabled by default and SMB2 is on.
QAS 220.127.116.1139 or older SMB1 can be enabled on the 2012 R2 Systems. As of 18.104.22.16839, QAS supports SMB2 and SMB3. See KB 131056 for more information.
In QAS 4.1.3, SMB2 is used by default.
