AIX command lsgroup <groupname> does not show information returns error: 3004-686 Group "longname" does not exist
If trying to add group via smitty you get Error 3004-694 Name is too long.
3rd Party issue. Character length limitation.
The command: lsattr -E -l sys0 -a max_logname shows the character length allowed minus 1 special character. For example if it returns 9, than a group or username of 8 is allowed.
RESOLUTION 1:
1 - chdev -l sys0 -a max_logname=21
2 - reboot
RESOLUTION 2:
Change the group name so that it complies with AIX character length restrictions
WORKAROUND 1:
Edit the /etc/opt/quest/vas/group-override file and make the entry to shorten the length
