When the Active Roles Administration Service loses connectivity to SQL, it posts Event ID 2512 to the Event Viewer in the following locations:
- Active Roles 7.x
- Applications and Services Logs > Active Roles Admin Service
- Active Roles 6.x
- Applications and Services Logs > EDM Server
This event can be leveraged to monitor connectivity to SQL.
A sample output of the event is shown below:
Connection to database has been lost.
ActiveRoles Administration Service has lost connection to Configuration database. Administration Service is making attempts to connect to database.
Details: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)
The specified network name is no longer available

Next attempt to connect: In 15 minutes or later
Until after connection is restored unavailable are all the functions of Administration Service that require access to Configuration database. These include: (1) retrieving and updating ActiveRoles configuration data; (2) retrieving changes to configuration data made by other Administration Services (both directly and via replication); (3) retrieving and updating virtual attributes stored in Configuration database.
