If the Idle Session Timeout is not set then the user will be automatically logged out when they reach the Maximum Session Length value or when they log out of CAM manually.
“Maximum Session Length(hours)” is the maximum duration of any user session before CAM logs the user out, or, they log themselves out.
Idle Session Timeout (minutes) is how long a user’s session can be idle, before they become inactive. The inactive session timeout works is by closing the users session in CAM when no requests have been made to CAM from that session. If a request is made from the browser to CAM, before the timeout value is reached, this will reset the inactivity timeout.
The differences being, Maximum Session Length(hours) is triggered when the total duration timeout is reached; the other Idle Session Timeout (minutes) is triggered when the users inactive duration timeout is exceeded.
To limit the maximum duration of the session, for example for 24 hours for any user to say logged on to CAM, use the “Maximum Session Length(hours)” setting.
To timeout users when they are not requesting any data via CAM for a session, for example, you have walked away from their work station, use the Idle Session Timeout (minutes) setting.
