When applying an upgrade patch to Safeguard, if there are many queued email this may cause the upgrade to take longer. -
Description
When applying an upgrade patch to a Safeguard, the patch may take longer if there are many (eg counts of tens of thousands or higher) of queued email. -
Cause
Time may be added to the upgrade as permissions are checked / changed on queued email folders/objects internal to Safeguard. In lab testing, ~180,000 unsent email added roughly ten minutes to the upgrade time on a Safeguard appliance. -
Resolution
STATUS: Issue ID 800727 has been corrected in Safeguard 2.8. From the Safeguard 2.8 Release Notes under the "Resolved Issues" section:
"Unsent emails no longer cause the patch to stall. Issue ID 800727"
WORKAROUND: Ensure the email configuration is current and accurate so there are no/few queued email.
In any expected configuration, this would not cause the upgrade to time out, only take longer to apply.

Additional Information
While extremely unlikely, it is possible that if there is an extremely high number of queued email that the upgrade might pass the 5 hour timeout and fail. This number of queued items would not be expected in any normal configuration.
