Memory utilization of the Active Roles Synchronization Service process is high when running frequent updates against many objects -
Description
In some configurations where Workflow steps are frequently (multiple times an hour) updating hundreds of thousands of objects between connected systems, memory utilization on the Active Roles Synchronization Service may grow to consume a very large amount of system memory. -
Cause
The Active Roles Synchronization Service process holds objects in memory until they are cleaned out by a garbage collection process. This garbage collector only runs once an hour, by default. In some environments with performance constraints, this may result in issues with the garbage collector completing as expected, resulting in a net increase of objects held in memory every hour. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND
The garbage collection interval can be controlled through the use of a registry key. Setting a lower interval may allow the garbage collection to complete in a more timely manner.In the registry on the machine hosting the Active Roles Synchronization Service:- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\One Identity\Active Roles\Configuration\SyncService\Service
- Create a new 32-bit DWORD value named StorageCollectorPeriod
- Set this to a decimal value of X, where X is value in minutes which is slightly longer than the duration of a Workflow Step. The default value for this key is a decimal value of 60.
- Restart the Active Roles Synchronization Service service.
