Where can I find the start scripts for various VAS components on my *nix system?
Knowing the location of the scripts would help in controlling (stop/start/restart) as well as checking the status of daemons.
Linux/Solaris:
/etc/init.d/vas{d,gpd,ypd}
HP/Tru64:
/sbin/init.d/vas{d,gpd,ypd}
AIX:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/vas{d,gpd,ypd}
Irix:
/etc/init.d
Mac OSX:
/Library/StartupItems/vasd/vasd
On Linux systems, for example, vasd can be restarted with the following:
/etc/init.d/vasd restart
On AIX systems, System Resource Controller (SRC) can be used for daemon control.
vasd/vasgpd/vasypd can be stopped, started as well as checked for status, by the startsrc/stopsrc/lssrc commands on AIX. The init scripts can also be used, they call into the appropriate functions.
On Solaris 10 systems, the Service Management Facility (SMF) can be used for managing services.
svcadm enable [-rst] <service> ... - enable and online service(s)
svcadm disable [-st] <service> ... - disable and offline service(s)
svcadm restart <service> ... - restart specified service(s)
svcadm refresh <service> ... - re-read service configuration
