When using the Syslog-ng Agent for Windows to collect logs the following error appears:
Invalid byte sequence or other error while converting input, the sequence will be substituted by a question mark; encoding='WINDOWS-1252', char='0x81'
This error and issue will not stop the processing of logs, it is simply informational in nature alerting the end-user that the character that cannot be parsed correctly has been replaced by a question mark character.
This error can be ignored and/or filtered out if desired using the Syslog-ng Agent for Windows filter options.
To resolve this issue one of two steps can be taken.
