The Syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) reports that it has exceeded its license limit with an error similar to the following:
Number of licensed hostnames exceeded; error='Licensed limit exceeded, rejecting request (license_limit=4000)'
RESOLUTION 1:
1 - Obtain a license with a larger host count
The Syslog-ng Store Box (SSB) licenses per hostname that makes a connection to the SSB, therefore, each time a single host connects it caches 1 "license" for that host and subtracts it from the number of available licenses. If the number of hosts with unique hostnames that connect to the SSB is larger than the number of licensed hosts in the SSB license a new license with an increased number of licensed hostnames will need to be obtained.
Please contact your Quest Account Rep to obtain a new license or the licensing team by filling out this form: Licensing Assistance
RESOLUTION 2:
1 - Check the license usage with the following command executed from the core shell: /opt/syslog-ng/sbin/syslog-ng-ctl show-license-info
2 - From the core shell restart the syslog-ng resets the license usage and clears the cache by running the following: systemctl restart syslog-ng
