Subscriber cannot be added due to SQL Server version mismatch (4265934)

When attempting to configure replication in Active Roles, the following error is received:

Subscriber cannot be added due to SQL Server version mismatch. Publisher SQL Server is a different version than SQL Server that hosts the database of the Administration Service you want to make a Subscriber.

SQL Server to hold the Subscriber role must be exactly the same version as SQL Server that holds the Publisher role. If SQL Server Service Pack or hotfixes are installed on one SQL Server, the same Service Pack and hotfixes must also be installed on the other SQL Server. 

Active Roles currently only supports replication if both SQL servers are the exact same version, even though SQL Server supports replication within two versions lower than that of the Publisher SQL version.

Upgrade/Downgrade the SQL servers and patch levels to match exactly, and then attempt to establish replication.
