Is it possible to create a cluster of TPAM appliances for load balancing and failover?
TPAM does support a high availability scenario where a backup Replica appliance can be used in a case where the Primary TPAM appliance has failed or is unavailable. However, it is not possible to set up a true load balancing or round robin scenario. There must always be one Primary appliance that is used as the main access point.
An external 3rd party failure detection solution can be used to monitor the status of the appliances. In the event of a status change, you will be alerted and users can be directed to the Replica appliance. The best way to set this up would be program your 3rd party solution to monitor the https://applianceurl/status page on each appliance. If the values changes (ie. Cluster Role, Run Level, State etc.), then actions can be taken, such as redirecting the DNS name from the IP of the Primary to the IP of the Replica.
It is not possible to access the internal operating system of the TPAM appliance, so customization of internal cluster settings is not possible. We recommend using the /status page for monitoring the appliance status.
From the /status page, these are the possible replication status.
Replication Status: Standby
Replication Status: FailedOver
Replication Status: FailingBack
Replication Status: Replicating
