Cannot change password on server or cannot login to MAC machine
Cause 1: Hostname of Mac had changed due to dhcp handing out a different hostname.
Cause 2: Native Active Directory binding was first before VAS causing an issue.
RESOLUTION 1:
Force a domain unjoin and rejoin by doing the following steps:
1. log in a with a local account and open a terminal
2. sudo /opt/quest/vastool -u admin-account unjoin -f
3. sudo /opt/quest/vastool -u admin-account join my.domain.name
where admin-account is an account with admin privileges on the domain where the machine was joined, here called my.domain.name
RESOLUTION 2:
Ensure VAS directory services is at the top of the list.
To view directory services list do the following commands:
# dscl
Entering interactive mode... (type "help" for commands)
> -list
Local
VAS
Contact
Search
RESOLUTION 3:
Delete the local account with the same name
