Applying the upgrade fails with the following message:
ERROR : The Privilege Manager upgrade cannot continue because running programs cannot be upgraded safely.
Please quit all Privilege Manager sessions before re-running this script.
The pmmasterd process is started every time an agent makes a request to the master. While the pmmasterd process is running, QPM4U can not be upgraded.
If the machine can not be taken off the network or brought down into single-user mode, the inetd configuration can be modified to prevent new connections from being accepted while the upgrade is being done. In this case, the agents will try other masters as defined in their pm.settings file or as defined by the cluster.
To disable pmmasterd when using xinetd:
1) edit the /etc/xinetd.d/pmmasterd file
2) edit the line "disable = no" to say "disable = yes" or, if there is no "disable =" line, add a line "disable = yes" anywhere inside the curly braces
3) save the file
4) reload or restart xinetd
To re-enable pmmasterd when using xinetd:
1) edit the /etc/xinetd.d/pmmasterd file
2) change the line "disable = yes" to say "disable = no"
3) save the file
4) reload or restart xinetd
To disable pmmasterd when using inetd:
1) edit the /etc/inetd.conf file
2) comment out the pmmasterd line by placing a # at the beginning of the line
3) save the file
4) reload or restart inetd
To re-enable pmmasterd when using inetd:
1) edit the /etc/inetd.conf file
2) remove the # at the beginning of the pmmasterd line
3) save the file
4) reload or restart inetd
