Description
This document is to provide customers with a better understanding of why Authentication Services 4.1 to 4.1.x upgrade no longer requiring Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM) related service restarts. -
Resolution
A restart of pam dependant services is no longer required going from 4.1 to another version of 4.1. This is due to the fact we no longer link to our own libraries.
In 4.0.3, PAM forces the pam libraries to be loaded uniquly. But if the newly loaded ( disk ) pam_vas library cannot use the still in memory old libvas, it fails.Now in 4.1, there is no link. Everything is done on the other side by the new auth daemon. So no need to restart.
