How to backup Management Console for Unix (MCU) data ?
It is recommended to back up the database directory prior to an operating system upgrade or patching.
Also It is advised to stop the MCU service before upgrading or patching the operating system to avoid database corruption.
Then to restart it when the process is finished.
We recommend you backup the Management Console for Unix (MCU) data periodically and before upgrading or any major changes to the console or operating system.
Here are the steps to perform the backup:
1 - Stop the service
On Windows:
a) Start | run and services.msc
b) Look for one of the following service names depending on MCU version:
One Identity Management Console for Unix
Quest One Management Console for Unix
Quest Identity Manager for Unix
c) Right click the service and select Stop
On Unix:
a) Log onto the machine as root user
b) Enter the following: /sbin/init.d/mcu_service stop
On Mac:
a) Click on Application folder
b) Click on Utilities
c) Click on Terminal.app
d) Enter in the following: launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.quest.mcu_service.plist
2 - Make a copy of the database files (all of the directories).
The location will be dependent on which operating system you installed on.
On Windows XP/2003 Server:
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Quest Software\Management Console for Unix
On Windows 2008 Server/2012/Vista/7:
%SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Quest Software\Management Console for Unix
On Unix and Mac: /var/opt/quest/mcu
3 - After you have copied the data, restart the MCU service.
