Active Roles Admin Service failing to start with Event ID 2501 -
Description
While starting the Active Roles Administration Service, the configured Microsoft SQL Server database can be contacted and the configuration starts loading, as confirmed in the Active Roles Admin Service Event Viewer logs. However, Event ID 2501 is encountered with the following error:
A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.) -
Cause
This is a network disconnect caused by an external firewall interrupting the connection to the Microsoft SQL Server host. -
Resolution
Workaround:
Investigate the logging on any firewalls between the Active Roles Administration Service host and the Microsoft SQL Server host to confirm where the disconnect is coming from, and then adjust any configured rules appropriately in order to allow the connection.
