When creating new databases using the Active Roles Configuration Center wizard, there is no option to disable AUTO_SHRINK.

This means that AUTO_SHRINK is enabled on the Active Roles database by default.

Having the AUTO_SHRINK option enabled has been linked to following issues in larger Active Roles configurations:

• Poor performance in general
• Poor performance specifically with Active Roles Dynamic Group functionality
• Delays when connecting to the Active Roles Administration Service with any client

We recommend all Active Roles customers work with their Database Administrator to disable the AUTO_SHRINK function via SQL Server Management Studio. For additional assistance with configuring this feature, please contact Microsoft.
 
Warning:
Before disabling AUTO_SHRINK, please work with your Database Administrator to ensure there are SQL Management maintenance plans in place to prevent data overgrowth.
 
NOTE: When performing an in-place upgrade to a Major or Minor Active Roles release, a new Database is required. Following an upgrade to Active Roles 8.2.1 or earlier, you may need to disable AUTO_SHRINK again. This does not impact Service Pack upgrades for the same version, as they do not require a new Database.

NOTE: When creating new databases using the Active Roles Management Shell and the New-ARDatabase cmdlet, it is possible to specify -EnableAutoShrink $false

Use the New-ARDatabase cmdlet to create new Active Roles Administration Service databases

WORKAROUND 2

Post-configuration, use SQL Server Management Studio to disable the AUTO_SHRINK setting on the Active Roles databases.
