When users attempt to logon using extended ascii characters they are not able to log in. The following error may be seen in log files:
"KRB5KDC_ERR_PREAUTH_FAILED (-1765328360): Preauthentication failed"
What characters are supported for users?
Characters outside of the standard US ASCII character set are not supported. Avoid using extended/special characters in passwords. The UK "pound" and European "euro" currency symbols are known to cause this issue
The character "$" is also known to cause this issue, especially for service accounts or any situation where the password is passed on the command line.
Issue fixed in QAS 22.214.171.12477.
HP-UX has additional limitations for password used to logon, refer to Quest solution 13900 "User unable to login into HPUX server - password is incorrect error message occurs"
