Configuring a functional account for a HP-UX (Trusted) system
Description
How is a functional account (funcacct) configured on a HP-UX Trusted system?
Resolution
Open the HP-UX System Administration Manager (SAM).
Go to the “Accounts for Users and Groups” area.
Select “Users”.
From Actions choose Add.
Provide a Login Name for the functional account, for this example we’ll use funcacct.
Change the User ID (UID) to 0.
Confirm “Yes” that User ID “0” is already used and that you are sure you want to reuse it.
The Primary Group Name can remain users and the Start-Up Program should remain /usr/bin/sh.
Tab to OK to add the functional account.
Make note of the initial password for the functional account and then confirm the OK.
Find the functional account (funcacct) in the list of users then press the SPACE BAR to select the user.
From Actions choose “Modify User’s Password”
Type the old password you wrote down and then type and retype the desired password of the functional account.
Log into your PAR or eGP and go to the HP-UX system that you’ve configured to be managed by the functional account (funcacct) you created. When you have it properly configured click “Test System” and you should receive a successful message.
