We have added an AS400 System as a managed system and have selected "Use SSL" on the "Connections" tab, but when we test the connection, we receive an error:
connected to as400system, port 23 via ssl
ssl_connect: unkwn before/connect initialization
ssl_connect: 23wcha sslv2/v3 write client hello a
unblocked [initial connection] (was 'connection incomplete') -- failure
Typically, systems that need SSL to encrypt the channel listen on something other than the default protocol port. For instance, Telnet is 23, Telnet over SSL on AS/400 default port is 992.
You will receive the errors seen by enabling SSL and leaving the port the same. The first step in troubleshooting this is to verify with the AS/400 expert which port TPAM should be connecting for SSL. If they are not available, then change the port to 992 and try it.
If additional errors occur, check the SSL log on the AS/400 for errors. It may be attempting something higher than SSLv3 (perhaps TLSv1) which isn't currently supported in AS/400 or Tandem platforms.
