What is the difference between Backup and Archive?
The backup file contains the repository configuration, systems, accounts and collections and non-archived session logs. The file created is used when there is a need to restore a TPAM appliance.
Archive servers are configured and used to store PSM session archive logs, removing them from the appliance. The session logs that are archived off are stored as compressed encrypted files that only the appliance can decompress and view. When archive sessions are replayed the appliance will copy the archived file to the appliance and play it locally leaving the archived copy on the archive server. We recommend that session logs are archived to store them securely and reduce the size of the backup file.
Archive servers can also be configured and used to store offline encrypted backup files, securely retaining the backup for any future recovery.
