A 'Check Connection' to a SSH Asset returned "SSH host key can not be verified" -
Description
When testing an Asset via the 'Check Connection' button an error may be returned. The Safeguard 'Task' window my show "The known ssh host key does not match the SSH host key reported by the asset'". Expanding the view (eyeball icon) to show the Details | Task Output may show a line similar to 'Warning Connection failed: "SSH host key can not be verified (MD5 RSA e6:1b:57:82:85:4a:28:d5:aa:69:9a:52:7b:32:32:d6)" '. -
Cause
The SSH host key on the asset has been changed; or the connection is now to a different asset (for example, due to an IP change). -
Resolution
Ensure the correct asset is being connected to so that the correct asset is updated (and not due to stale IP address returned from DNS or similar issue).
To update the SSH key in Safeguard, right-click on the Asset and utilize the 'Discovery SSH key' button. This will provide detail regarding the update, or alternatively confirm the key does match.
