Unable to connect via RDP to target server using hostname but this works using the IP address -
Description
Users can connect using the IP address of the target server but when trying to connect using the target server hostname, RDP Session fails.
Logs show the error:
Target address is denied by policy; host='SERVERNAME.DOMAIN.COM', port='3389'

Cause
DNS Server is failing to resolve the target hostname

Resolution
- Verify if the RDP Connection policy is using a custom DNS Server and that this server is working correctly by testing NSLookup against that specific DNS Server outside SPS:
- nslookup {TargetServerFQDN} {DNS_IP}
- Make sure the correct DNS servers are defined in SPS under and that these DNS Servers can resolve the hostname in question:
- Basic Settings > Network > Naming > Primary DNS server | Secondary DNS server
- Verify if the RDP Connection policy is using a custom DNS Server and that this server is working correctly by testing NSLookup against that specific DNS Server outside SPS:
