To edit the dictionary file used in the Password Manager Password Policy, do the following:
REFERENCE & TROUBLESHOOTING
The QPMDictionary.txt file (dictionary file) is located in the following folder:
'\\<Domain>\SYSVOL\<Domain>\31EB75A4-CD1A-4F67-94DA-9F8F5DF1F5C1'
This folder and the dictionary file are created and deployed when Password Policy Manager (PPM) is installed.
The dictionary file is never cached. During each password validity check, the dictionary files gets read.
NOTE: If the Edit dictionary file option is missing (see attached screenshot), please manually create this folder in the above location and add the attached dictionary file:
31EB75A4-CD1A-4F67-94DA-9F8F5DF1F5C1
It will look like this, using the domain domain.com as an example:
\\domain.com\SYSVOL\domain.com\31EB75A4-CD1A-4F67-94DA-9F8F5DF1F5C1
Alternatively you can navigate to a local folder on the DC (Domain Controller), which in turn will be replicated to all other DCs. Example:
C:\Windows\SYSVOL\Sysvol\domain.com\31EB75A4-CD1A-4F67-94DA-9F8F5DF1F5C1
Attached is a copy of the default QPMDictionary.txt (dictionary file) in the event that it needs to be restored back to default.
