Description
The following error message is received when trying to ssh to a client that was recently upgraded to Authentication services version 4.2.x: ssh -vv localhost ssh: symbol lookup error: ssh: undefined symbol: vassym_GSS_C_NT_HOSTBASED_SERVICE
A similar error message is shown when trying to restart ssh: Starting sshd-quest service: /opt/quest/sbin/sshd: symbol lookup error: /opt/quest/sbin/sshd: undefined symbol: vassym_GSS_C_NT_HOSTBASED_SERVICE
Cause
The client is still using the Quest ssh version that is no longer supported.
Check using the following command: rpm -qa | grep -i ssh
The Quest version will show as a name similar to: quest-openssh-5.2p1_q1-1
Resolution
Install a supported version of ssh from either your Operating system vendor or OpenSSH.
Additional Information
The last version of Quest ssh was released in November 2011. This version of ssh is no longer supported, therefore we recommend using OpenSSH.
