Cause
Defect in the vas_status.sh script
Defect ID #704912 for the awk issue

Resolution
WORKAROUND
Replacing "awk" on lines 2470 and 2471 of the "/opt/quest/libexec/vas/scripts/vas_status.sh" script with "/usr/bin/nawk" on the Solaris systems where the message is seen. Note that this issue does not affect the functionality of the setting. The defect is limited to the vas_status.sh (vastool status) script.

Issue fixed in version 4.1.3.23101. The latest version of the product can be downloaded here -
