The following error is reported by some users when attempting to login to a HPUX server
bash-4.4# /opt/quest/bin/vastool user checklogin username1
Error prompting for credential.
ERROR: VAS_ERR_FAILURE: Unspecified failure
Credential prompt failed to get input.
By default HP allows up to 8 characters in a username. The failing users had 9 characters.
Please note that this is not an Authentication Services restriction. It is a HP restriction.
Consult the HP documentation for a workaround. As a starting point the following article may be referenced.
Use a "user-override" file to override the usernames to less than 8 characters. The below example, would allow the firstname.lastname@example.org user to log on with the username shortnam instead.
# more /etc/opt/quest/vas/user-override
