When the system is rebooted the QAS daemon continues to go into Maintenance mode and will not start. Attempts to manually start the QAS daemon also fail.
The default timeout in SMF on Solaris 10 machines is 60 seconds. This applies to start, stop and restart functions. On slower or busy systems, this can lead to QAS failing to start within that specified time at which point would be set to Maintainence Mode.
If you are not able to reduce the load on the affect Solaris 10 machine, you can modify the default timeouts configured within SMF.
1) Create a copy of /opt/quest/libexec/vas/manifest/vasd.xml
2) Edit the 3 timeout value found in the manifest you just copied to values that would be appropriate to overcome the timeout. Values are entered in seconds.
3) Enter into the SMF configuration facility by typing 'svccfg' as a root user
4) Import the new manifest by typing the folling at the prompt svc:>
svc:> import /path/to/modified.xml
To confirm the new timeout values have been updated you can then run the following at the svc:> prompt
svc:> export quest/vas/vasd
You should see the 3 new timeout values listed
