How to force a host to use a specific DC or a specific site -
Resolution
Join to a specific domain controller by adding the DC name at the end of the join line. In the below command replace domainname.com and dc name with info from your environment:
# /opt/quest/bin/vastool -u join yourdomain.com dc1.yourdomain.com dc3.yourdomain.com
If already joined, you can add the DCs to vas.conf (in order of preference), by running the following command after replacing domainname.com and dc name with info from your environment:
# /opt/quest/bin/vastool configure realm domainname.com dc1.yourdomain.com dc2.yourdomain.com
Set the site option at join time, replacing yoursitename and yourdomain.com with info from your environment :
# /opt/quest/bin/vastool join -u join -s yoursitename yourdomain.comIf the machine is already joined, you can configure the site option in vas.conf by running the below command:
( Replacing Default-First-Site-Name with the site name in your environment)# /opt/quest/bin/vastool configure vas libvas site-name-override Default-First-Site-Name -
Additional Information
If it is imperative that network traffic only goes to the specific DCs at all times, that is SAS never looks for DCs to communicate with outside of a particular site then do not use site-name-override. The SAS client systems instead should be in an actual site configured in AD's sites and services. Also site-only-servers = true should be set.
