The MCU (Management Console for Unix) is not finding groups in order to set up access and permissions roles.

Resolution
The Management Console for Unix does not allow you to add domain-local Active Directory groups to roles; you can only add security-enabled global and universal groups.
Also of note, the MCU will only browse or setup the domain it is connected to. It does not have cross domain functionality or cross forest functionality.
