4.1.6 logging message vasd Temporary IPC PID starting -
Description
After upgrading to Authentication Services 4.1.6-23562. We're seeing vasd Temporary IPC PID starting message in the syslog. -
Resolution
These message are new logging messages in QAS. By default QAS starts up two 'PERM IPC' processes. ( vastool info processes ). If it gets a lot of simultaneous activity ( lots of logins, or say multiple cron jobs, etc ) it makes up to 3 more 'TEMP IPC' processes. Then it keeps track if they are being used, and will shut them down after they aren't needed for 2 minutes.
So if for example there is a 5 minute cron job for multiple QAS users, it could start up a TEMP process every 5 minutes, closing it down 2 minutes later. Leading to 24 messages an hour. There is here is no way to stop or reduce it. These message can be safely ignored.
