Safeguard Authentication Services is slow on AIX
This is seen as general slowness, everything that communicates with the vasd process is taking longer than expected.
In extreme cases this is seen as users failing to log in due to timeouts.
Note that it gets slower if the system is under heavy load.
A quick test can be done using asdcom:
$ time /opt/quest/libexec/vas/sugi/asdcom SendPing
real 0m0.005s
user 0m0.001s
sys 0m0.003s
$
On an affected system this usually quick command can take multiple seconds.
Another symptom seen is vastool status run times increasing.
For example, if status normally runs in 10 seconds, under this issue, it can take multiple minutes to complete. -
