How does Privilege Manager for Windows elevate application permissions?
Privilege Manager uses elevation “rules” to define applications, Windows processes, Active X controls and script files that need to run under different credentials from the logged in user. When the rule is applied, the Privilege Manager client runs the application or process under elevated credentials.
How can I create Privilege Manager for Windows rules?
Rules are easily created with the Rules Wizard in the Privilege Manager console. Rules can also be downloaded from the community supported Rules Exchange, which allows users to share rules.
Can I elevate every application from a specific publisher?
Privilege Manager Professional can create an elevation rule based on a specific publisher’s digital certificate, allowing you to automatically elevate every application from that publisher.
What operating systems does the client support? What operating systems does the console require?
The Privilege Manager for Windows client and console can run on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 as well as Server 2008, Server 2008 R2, Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2.
What are the installation prerequisites for Privilege Manager for Windows?
There are no prerequisites for the client application. The Privilege Manager console requires the Group Policy Management Console and .NET Framework 3.5.
How long does it take to set up? Does it require me to install software on my desktops?
The console installs in minutes. The Privilege Manager client must be installed on any computers that you want to run elevation rules. The client is easily installed via Group Policy or through a tool like Desktop Authority.
Licensing FAQs
Privilege Manager requires a license for every computer that is going to have the client installed.
What user license quantities are available?
You can purchase licenses for as few as 10 clients.
Where do I apply the License key?
In the Privilege Manager for Windows console, you can apply the license file by choosing Help | About.
Is an evaluation license available? What restrictions does it have?
Yes, a 30-day evaluation license is available that is fully functional
How are licenses delivered?
Once your order has been processed you will receive your license code or file by e-mail.
How can I add more licenses?
The process is the same for all products, contact your reseller or Account representative to purchase more licenses. When your order has been processed you will be provided with a new electronic license for the total quantity of licenses you purchased.

Privilege Manager for Windows Server installs as the community edition and can be upgraded to try Privilege Manager Pro. Privilege Manager Pro. starts automatically as a 30-day Pro evaluation and can have a license file attached to make it a licensed product.
