Failed to install Syslog-NG 6.0.18 on Solaris 11.4 -
Description
On Solaris 11.4 installation of Syslog-NG 6.0.18 results in the following error:Installing Syslog-NG as## Executing preinstall script.svcadm: Pattern 'svc:/system/system-log' matches multiple instances:svc:/system/system-log:defaultsvc:/system/system-log:rsyslogpkgadd: ERROR: preinstall script did not complete successfullyInstallation of failed. -
Cause
The issue is due to Solaris 11.4 having two services by default that match system-log:
svc:/system/system-log:defaultsvc:/system/system-log:rsyslogDuring installation Syslog-NG attempts to disable the existing Syslog-NG service, which worked in Solaris 11.3 and earlier because there was only one service that matched "system-log". In Solaris 11.4 an error is returned that multiple services match and so the command is ambiguous.Defect ID SYSLOGDEV-5081 has been created for tracking of this issue. -
Resolution
RESOLUTION
The issue is fixed in syslog-ng 6.0.19.
Download the installer of the latest version of syslog-ng PE 6 from our support portal.
WORKAROUND
The issue can be worked around by manually disabling the two system-log services before installing Syslog-NG. After installation Syslog-NG should run without further issues.
