In syslog-ng Store Box (SSB), when creating server destinations with the legacy BSD-syslog protocol described in RFC 3164, there is an option to customize the format of the message contents using macros, by selecting Custom message part only, or Custom on-wire message to reformat the message (including the headers).
Specifying the macros in Log > Destinations > Message template > Custom message part only, or Custom on-wire message might result in an error with the following message:
"Enter a valid template"
SSB does not recognize macros without curly brackets. Example of an invalid macro:
$MSG\n
SSB only recognizes macros in Log > Destinations > Message template > Custom message part only, or Custom on-wire message when they are used with curly brackets - {}
Example of a valid macro:
${MSG}\n
