4 Getting Started with Quest ESSO - Scenario of Use

This section explains how to begin with Quest ESSO by giving a general overview of the Quest ESSO modules through a scenario of use.
Quest ESSO manages the password lifecycle (authentication, modification and expiration). The scenario detailed here focuses on the authentication phase and guides you through the steps required to configure SSO for an application. The demonstration uses the ESSO demo tool application provided in the installation package.

4.1 Authenticating to the Workstation with Advanced Login

At workstation startup, the Advanced Login authentication window appears.
User: primary administrator user name you have entered while installing the Quest ESSO Controller (see "Secrets Initialization" wizard window in Section 2.1, "Initializing the Directory and Installing the Quest ESSO Controller").
Password: primary administrator’s password.
Log on to: primary administrator’s domain.

The workstation session opens in the Quest ESSO environment and SSOWatch module starts automatically.

4.2 Creating the Technical Definition of the Application

The technical definition is the description of an application. It allows you to perform single sign-on in a Quest ESSO environment. The technical definition describes the following application information:
To create a technical definition, you must use Enterprise SSO Studio, which is part of the administration module. Enterprise SSO Studio is the Quest Enterprise SSO configuration editor. It allows you to describe the applications for which you want to enable Single Sign-On.

4.2.1 Starting Enterprise SSO Studio

The following procedure explains how to start Enterprise SSO Studio from the client workstation.
1.
To start Enterprise SSO Studio, click
Start | Programs | Quest Software | Enterprise SSO | Enterprise SSO Studio
The Enterprise SSO Studio authentication window appears.
User: primary administrator user name you have entered while installing the Quest ESSO Controller (see "Secrets Initialization" wizard window in 2.1, "Initializing the Directory and Installing the Quest ESSO Controller").
Password: primary administrator’s password.
Log on to: primary administrator’s domain.
3.
Enterprise SSO Studio main window opens. It displays a tree that corresponds to the associated directory defined at initialization time.
