Managing batches of smart cards

Managing batches of smart cards

The smart card batch feature allows you to perform the following operations:

  • Entering batches of smart cards, assigned or lent.
  • Limiting smart card assignment to those that are declared in the batch.
  • Displaying the following information:
    • Number of smart cards kept available in the batch and not assigned yet.
    • Number of smart cards that are assigned or lent to users.
    • Number of blacklisted smart cards.

In this section:

Creating/modifying a batch of cards

Creating/modifying a batch of cards

Subject

This section explains how to create or modify a batch of smart cards. Once you have created a batch, you can display the assigned, lent, black listed or unused cards. To display the state of the batch, see Section Displaying information on batches of cards.

NOTE: A smart card can be assigned to one batch only.

Procedure

  1. In the tree structure of the Directory panel, select the container for which you want to define a batch, and click the Batches of cards tab.
    • The Batches of cards tab appears.
  2. Do one of the following operations:
    • To add a batch of cards, click the Add button.
    • To modify an existing batch, select the wanted batch and click Edit.

    The batch details window appears.

  3. Fill-in the window with the following instructions:
    • Name: the label you want to use for the batch.
    • Class: the type of card that makes up the batch.
    • Number of tokens: the amount of cards in the batch.
    • First/Last serial number: the identification of the smart card batch.
If you do not know the serial numbers, type 0000000000000000 for the first number and FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF for the last number: in this case, there is one batch of cards by smart card type.
    • Administrators allowed to assign tokens from this batch: an empty list means that all the administrators are allowed to assign tokens from the batch.

Forcing the use of smart cards defined in the batches of cards

Forcing the use of smart cards defined in the batches of cards
