Replication has stopped between Primary and Replica or Replica is unresponsive. How do we perform a backup of the Primary and restore it to the Replica appliance?
Here are the instructions for performing a backup of your Primary and restoring it to the Replica:
- Log into /paradmin on your Primary, go to System Status/Settings | HA Config and select HA Settings.
- Change the Primary to "Standalone" mode and click "Save Changes".
- It will take a few moments. Refresh the page to verify change.
- Go to Backup | Manage Online Backups and click the "Backup Now" button.
- Click the Backup Log tab to monitor the progress. It may take some time if you have a large database.
- Once completed, go to the Manage Online Backups tab, select today's backup, click the "Download" button.
- Save the file to your computer or an external location that is accessible from the Replica.
If possible, access the Replica through the web:
- Go to https://IP_of_Replica:8443/parconfig/forcereplica.asp
- If prompted, login with PARMASTER or equivalent sys-admin account
- Verify the current status. To login, it must be in "Primary" mode.
- If not in Primary, select "Primary" from the drop down menu and click the "Force" button.
- The Replica will now reboot itself. Wait 5-10 minutes for this to complete.
Alternately, you access the Replica through the config port:
- Disconnect the LAN cable from the Replica.
- Connect a laptop to the Config Port of Replica with a cross-over cable.
- Assign a static IP to the Laptop in the 192.168.1.0/24 network.
- Open your web browser and go to https://192.168.1.105/parconfig/forcereplica.asp
- If prompted, login with PARMASTER or equivalent sys-admin account
- Verify the current status. To login, it must be in "Primary" mode.
- If not in Primary mode, select "Primary" from the drop down menu and click the "Force" button.
- The Replica will now reboot itself. Wait 5-10 minutes for this to complete.
After the Replica is rebooted:
- Go to https://192.168.1.105/parconfig
- Log in with PARMASTER or equivalent sys-admin account
- Go to Restore and select Restore Appliance
- Upload the backup file you saved earlier and click "Restore Now".
- Monitor the Restore Log for successful completion.
Go back and log into the /paradmin interface of the Primary
- Go to System Status/Settings | HA Config and select HA Settings.
- Change the Replica to "Test Mode" and click "Save Changes" (This gracefully stops the Primary functions on the Replica.)
- Wait a few moments, then reload. Successful mode change confirms communication.
- Change the Primary to "Replicating" mode and "Save Changes". Wait and reload (click the "Settings" tab to refresh the status).
- The change to "Replicating" mode will force a full backup of the Primary.
- Monitor the Backup Log until completion. Go to Backup | Backup Log | Results tab.
- Go to HA Settings page and change the Replica to Replica mode. Wait and reload.
- Go to System Status / Settings | HA Config and select HA Primary Log
- Verify that replication is happening between the Primary and Replica.
HA-Pair should now be fully functional
