How to perform a disaster recovery and failover test with your TPAM appliances.
There are a couple different ways of approaching this, depending on the functionality to be tested and the desired outcome.
If you would like to test the Replica to make sure it will failover into Primary mode in the case of a Primary appliance failure, simply sever the network connection between the two appliances and wait the configured amount of time until it is expected to promote itself. There should be indications of this activity recorded in the HA Primary and HA Replica logs.
You can also change the modes of the appliances manually from the HA Settings page. By placing the Primary into Standalone mode and the Replica into Primary mode, this will stop the replication between the two appliances. Again, you will see this activity as well as some warning messages listed in the HA Primary and HA Replica logs.
Once your testing is complete, place the Primary back into Replicating mode and the Replica into Test mode and Save Changes. Wait for the Primary's auto-backup to complete and verify that the Replica has successfully switched from Primary to Test mode. Once this is verified, you can change the Replica to Replica mode and Save Changes. If all goes as expected, the HA Pair should be re-established.
