Before beginning:
A CLI admin user id is required for authentication. If one doesn't already exist on the appliance, it must be created in the '/admin' interface.
Detailed instructions for creating a CLI Sys-Admin user can be found here:
How to create a command line interface (CLI) SysAdmin account
https://support.quest.com/kb/105153
The plink and pscp applications (and puttygen if you need to create the CLI user above) will be need to be downloaded from the putty.org site (see 'More Information' below).
Connecting to the appliance:
If the network connection to the appliance is working, then connection can be made directly. If a connection to the appliance through the network is not possible, a cross-over cable will be required to connect a laptop locally. For restoring via the CLI, a connection will need to be made into the NETWORK port and connect using the network IP.
Uploading the backup file to the appliance:
Open a Windows Command Prompt window and change to the directory where your Putty executables are located. Issue the following command:
pscp -scp -i [key file] [path/filename] [cli user name]@[host]:filename.zip
Example:
pscp -scp -i C:\key_file.ppk C:\path_to_backup\.zip cli_admin@10.10.10.10:backup_file_name.zip
Wait for the file to upload. It may take time if it is a large file.
Put the appliance in Maintenance Mode:
Using plink, the RunLevel command may be used to change the Run Level to maintenance mode (available in 2.5.908+):
plink -i [keyfile] [userid]@[PAR-address] RunLevel --Action set --RunLevel Maintenance
Example:
plink.exe -i C:\key_file.ppk cli_admin@10.10.10.10 RunLevel --Action set --RunLevel Maintenance
Using plink, the restore command may be run via the CLI to restore the file to the appliance.
plink -i [keyfile] [userid]@[PAR-address] restore --BackupName [backup_file_name.zip]
Example:
plink -i C:\key_file.ppk cli_admin@10.10.10.10 restore --BackupName backup_file_name.zip
To monitor the progress, view the restore log from the the web GUI or the command line:
plink -ssh -i [keyfile] [userid]@[PAR-address] command [option]
Example:
plink -ssh -i C:\key_file.ppk cli_admin@10.10.10.10 viewlog -restore
Once the restore is complete, the appliance will reboot.
Exit Maintenance Mode on the Appliance
Using plink, the RunLevel command may be used to change the Run Level to operational mode (available in 2.5.908+):
plink -i [keyfile] [userid]@[PAR-address] RunLevel --Action set --RunLevel Operational
Example:
plink.exe -i C:\key_file.ppk cli_admin@10.10.10.10 RunLevel --Action set --RunLevel Operational
The restore should now be complete. Review the logs for any errors.
