When working with the Active Roles Synchronization Service to update tens of thousands of objects or more over an extended period, it may be noted that performance steadily decreases and eventually updates are not being processed in a reasonable timeframe.
This could happen during a consolidation or migration from another Active Directory Domain or other system.
The Directory Service event viewer logs on the target Domain Controller will show the following error message:
Event ID: 623: Active Directory could not perform an operation because the database has run out of version storage.
Follow the workaround noted in this Microsoft resource.
Set the EDB max ver pages (increment over the minimum) registry key to a value of 19200.
